Prospect Park staff have issued a reminder to guests of the park that the buried dragon eggs near the park's south entrance should not be climbed upon, struck, or played on.

"Although the embryonic dragons inside are very large, they’re also very delicate, and very easy to disturb," explained park Mythozoological Acquisitions Vice-Director Nora Bedrosian.

"There's a dragon-shaped playground structure just up the road," she added, "at the playground near the Lincoln road entrance, that kids might enjoy almost as much."

The eggs, Bedrosian explained, are those of a Bronze Dragon. Like all Bronze Dragon eggs, they make a gentle ringing sound from within, when shaken or struck.

"I understand the appeal, believe me," said Bedrosian. "When I was growing up in western Azerbaijan, there's nothing we enjoyed more than placing our ears to the buried egg-mounds while other children jumped up and down on them. But now of course we know that this isn't healthy for the young dragons inside."

The baby Bronze Dragons are expected to hatch in the late-spring. Watch this space for updates.
